Setting out my stall...

So, in the interests of working out where this blogs going, it's probably best to take stock of where I am now. Warhammer is very much the system of choice for me, always has been, probably always will be, but after 20-something years of hobbying, my eyes are very much more open these days to all the other games, systems, models, RPGs and other ways to scratch the hobby-itch that are out there  so while it's fair to expect that this blog will be Warhammer-heavy, it won't necessarily be Warhammer-exclusive by any means. Better to leave the door open than to paint myself into a corner from the beginning and have the blog fail due to not matching some sort of perceived mandate on content.

As 2013 begins, I am a man of four armies. Exciting new releases and their potential distractions notwithstanding, I'm hoping to focus on these four armies, at least to the point where each is a fully painted and field-able, legal list (minimum 1000pts each, 2000pts in an ideal world).

The armies in question;

1) Beastmen - making up my 1k portion of the 2k Beastmen/Ogre Kingdoms army that myself and my buddy fielded at Warhammer Doubles in November 2012,  our first proper tournament and first games of 8th Edition against anyone other than each other, the beasts have a special place in my heart. With 1k of beasts painted (if basically) and enough minis to take it to 2k, getting these guys painted up is a definite must for 2013.

2) Empire - a long time favourite army, but one I haven't even played in 8th, I've got a solid 1k of these guys waiting to be assigned a state to defend and taken to war.

3) Tomb Kings - nothing built on his front yet, but with a bits box full of TK bits and a vision of a well converted themed army in mind, it won't be long before the TKs get their moment.

4) Bretonnians - the army of the moment. I wanted something new and different to put together this year, and having owned chaos warriors, orcs and goblins, vampire counts and high elves in the past, the chivalric, Arthurian knights of Bretonnia looked like a good call to fill that "different" category. With a battalion in hand and the first 1k points sketched out, expect to see more of these soon.

So hopefully that paints a picture of what is to come. Stay tuned.

New year, new blog.

Welcome to Belly and the Beast!

It's the first day of 2013, and what better day could there be to start a brand new painting and modelling and general hobbying blog?

So, Belly and the Beast will hopefully prove to be a regular chronicle of my efforts in painting, converting and any other hobby-related activity I find myself undertaking for the foreseeable future. With any luck, I'll also get a long-term gaming buddy involved too, so there'll be more than just my own inane rumblings to read here.

That'll do for the obligatory intro post - welcome once more to he blog, I hope you find something here that proves interesting, and, dare I say it, inspirational.
